International Character Chart

This is a chart of all the characters that can be generated with the International Character Input utility. Note that this is not a complete character chart, characters that the input utility does not generate are not included. Also not included are the misc. symbols that are provided on the utility as a convenience and are not necessarily foreign. The purpose of the chart is to test a particular font to see that it has the characters needed to be used for a specific document's content. Any missing characters will usually show up in the chart, depending on your system, as a question mark, rectangle, or blank. If the font does not support extended Latin at all, your browser will probably substitute the default font for the big characters. The descriptions should still display in your chosen font. To be certain of no substitutions by your browser, you may need to change your browser default to something very different than what you wish to test, like san-serif instead of serif. In general, the farther down the chart, the less likely the font can represent a character.

Each character has a brief description below it, along with it's unicode number in both decimal (preceded by #) and hexdecimal (preceded by x). The actual unicode multi-byte encoded file stream for each character is also shown (preceded by +, each pair of numbers being a hexdecimal byte). The file stream for the characters in this table will either be 2 or 3 bytes per character.

Simply type the font name you wish to test in the box below, and hit Enter or click the Re-Display button. Then scan the chart for missing characters and determine if the missing characters are needed for the language you are using. Which characters are used in which language is too much to go into here, but you can check out the EKI database. Type the font name carefully, no error checking is performed. Typically, if a font name does not exist, the chart will be displayed in your browser's default font.

No information entered here is saved, and your chosen font is not sensitive. The data is not even sent anywhere, it's all kept within your browser.
